"A people without a positive knowledge of their history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
Marcus Mosiah Garvey 1887-1940

"The Provider"
Joanne is one of the tireless women among our people, who are prepared to do whatever it takes to address the material reality in her process to provide food, shelter and clothing for her children. She executes her daily tasks (often menial) with pride and dignity. Ten percent of the revenue made from the sale of "The Provider" was sent to assist Joanne and her family.
Sankofa Feature Gallery
Pronunciation: san-ko-fa
Sankofa comes from the Akan - Twi language spoken in Ghana, West Africa. Translated into English Sankofa means: " We must look back into the past so that we can move forward into the future." While the African Image Revolution acknowledges that we cannot return to the past we can use the knowledge gain from our history to develop a new vision for the future with a greater sense of cultural integrity.
The Sankofa Gallery is a selection of the artist's most internationally acclaimed African Image Revolution concepts that can be found in private collections around the world.
